LeBron James and Caitlyn Clark Continue to Make History

Two scoring milestones were surpassed last week. LeBron James eclipsed the 40,000 points mark and Caitlyn Clark is now the NCAA all-time scoring leader, passing “Pistol” Pete Maravich.

LeBron James

LeBron needed nine points to get to the 40k mark as the Lakers hosted the Nuggets in a rematch of the Western Conference Finals. James would get it done in the second quarter with a driving spin move layup on Michael Porter Jr sending the sold-out Crypto Arena into a frenzy. Just over a year ago, LeBron passed Kareem for the all-time scoring list and now he becomes the first player to reach 40,000 points, a record that may never be broken. Despite the milestone, the Lakers would fall to the Nuggets 124-114. LeBron finished the game with 26 points on 12/20 shooting, 4 rebounds, and 9 assists.

In his 21st season in the NBA Lebron’s dominance at age 39 has been something incredible to witness. Still averaging 25 7 and 7 this deep in his career is ridiculous. I have always been a Jordan over LeBron guy, but by the time LeBron retires (in like 9 years) I may have to swing my vote

The Lakers currently sit 10th in the West with a 33-29 record. They are almost as close to the 11th seed as they are to the 5th seed. With 20 games left in the season, LeBron and Co. will have to buckle down to get a playoff spot.

Caitlyn Clark

Just weeks ago on Feb. 15, Clark passed Washington Huskies Kelsey Plum for first on the all-time women’s basketball scoring list and she continues to make history. Yesterday no.6 Iowa hosted no.2 Ohio State, a rematch from January. In the first matchup, the Buckeyes took down the Hawkeyes in overtime which led to a court storming incident involving Clark and a fan.

Over a month later, Clark got her revenge in the sweetest fashion. With .3 seconds left in the second quarter, Clark was at the free throw line with history staring her in the face. Calm, cool, and collected, Clark buried both attempts, surpassing the scoring record (3,667) that lasted for 54 years. She finished the game with 35 points (3,685 career points) 6 rebounds and 9 assists.

The Hawkeyes would go on to get the victory beating the Buckeyes 93-83 in the last game of the regular season. Iowa, currently ranked 6th in the nation, will be poised to make another run in the NCAA tournament.

Clark recently decided to declare for the WNBA draft where she will most likely be the first overall pick.
