Will Bill Belichick be Fired?
Reports are going around that Patriots owner Robert Kraft may fire head coach Bill Belichick if they lose this week against the Colts. The Patriots who are currently 2-7 have been nothing but a disappointment this season. They weren’t expected to make the playoffs, but I think they expected to be a little more competitive than this.
Now I don’t know how accurate these reports are, but if this is true then that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. How on earth would any owner think about firing one of if not the greatest coach of all time? And he isn’t just one of the greatest at the NFL level but across all sports. He has a career win percentage of .654, nine AFC championships, and six Super Bowl rings.
There must be something internal going on between Kraft and Belichick that we don’t know about. Belichick signed an extension in the offseason so something other than the Patriots being 2-7 must have Kraft not happy. I get the Patriots are used to winning so Kraft isn’t pleased with this season, but you can’t fire the guy who helped make this franchise what it is.
Belichick has Mac Jones commanding the offense who to me is the 31st best quarterback in the league ahead of only Tommy Devito. According to Alex Abramovitch, he is the 26th-best quarterback in the league. Check out his full rankings at the link below https://thesidelinenews.com/qb-rankings/.
Kraft needs to understand Jones isn’t the guy to save this franchise. I get he may not be familiar with rebuilding, but every team goes through it, and if there’s one coach you want to go through a rebuild with I think it is Belichick. Plus, imagine being the guy who fires Bill Belichick because you know Belichick will coach somewhere else and destroy the Patriots every time he plays them.
If he does get fired, where should he go?
Potential Landings Spots
Chargers
I think I speak on behalf of many football fans who are surprised Staley still coaches the team after the loss to the Jaguars in the playoffs. The Chargers have so much potential, but their games always come down to one of two plays or coaching decisions that Staley seems to get wrong. For example, going for it on 4th and 1 at your 25-yard line with 2:53 left up 28-24. They did not convert and gave the Vikings prime field position, but the Charger’s defense bailed their coach out and intercepted Cousins. I think if they miss the playoffs this season they will move away from Staley. Belichick and Herbert would also be a great duo.
Raiders
This team is a mess and has been for the last few years. I have no clue why Josh McDaniels even got a chance to begin with, but he did exactly what I expected him to do. This team needs someone to control the locker room and utilize all of the talent the team has to offer. Some people thought Brady would land with the Raiders before he went to Tampa Bay so maybe owner Mark Davis can get Belichick instead.
Bears
The Bears have some potential as they can build around Fields and DJ Moore and got some good picks from the Panthers. They are definitely not at a competitive level yet but coach Matt Eberflus is not the answer for the future. He has a career record of 6-21 and had a ridiculous 14-game losing streak from last season that carried over to this season.
Maybe Kraft didn’t like the video of Belichick shirtless leaving someone’s house. Who knows, but respect coach.
