Detroit Pistons’ Streak Lives On

After losing 118-112 to the Nets on Tuesday the Pistons made history by having the longest losing streak in NBA history at 27 games, surpassing the Cleveland Cavaliers (2010-11) and Philidelphia 76ers (2013-14). They added to the streak last night after blowing a 19-point halftime lead against the Boston Celtics. The Pistons have lost 28 straight games and are 2-29 after starting the season 2-1. Truly amazing.

Just when you think the Pistons’ streak cannot get any worse as far as record books wise, it can. If they lose their next two games they will not only have the longest losing streak in NBA history, but the longest losing streak in the four main sports (NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL) passing the Chicago Cardinals’ NFL team (1942-45).

Team Stats

The team, unsurprisingly, ranks close to last in some of the major defensive and offensive categories.

The team has a lot of potential. Between Cunningham, Ivey, Duren, and Thompson I think people thought they were going to see an exciting young team to watch this year, but now people watch them just to see how long this streak can go on. The team was projected to win around 28 games and as we approach the halfway mark of the season the team won’t even sniff that win total. They are currently projected to win five games which would be the worst record in NBA history.

Like Washington Wizards’ forward Kyle Kuzma tweeted, nobody wants to be the team to lose to the Pistons. Ironic enough, the Wizards are the third-worst team in the league with a 6-25 record so I don’t think anybody wants to lose to them either. The streak has gotten so bad that people are now betting that the Pistons won’t win another game this season. DraftKings dropped +100000 odds on the Pistons losing out. 100 dollars pays 100,000 dollars.

So who do the Pistons have next?

Dec. 30 Home vs Toronto

Jan. 1 Away at Houston

Jan. 3 Away at Utah

Jan. 5 Away at Golden State

Jan. 7 Away at Denver

Jan. 9 Home vs Sacramento

Jan. 10 Home vs San Antonio

Jan. 12 Home vs Houston

Jan. 15 Away at Washington

Jan. 17 Home vs Minnesota

That is the next 10 games if they lose all of these then they just should not be in the NBA. Their best bet is their next game against Toronto because if they don’t win that then they have four straight road games. It would be funny if they lost their next eight games and then went into Washington and Cade dropped 50 on Kuzma’s head and that is how the streak ends. However, as someone who may or may not have (the former) bet on the Pistons the last six games thinking the streak would end and will continue to bet on them, I much rather the win come soon.
