Fury vs. Ngannou Fight

I will get this out of the way now. I don’t know much about boxing so this blog will be based on what I have heard and my assumptions of things.

Tyson Fury fought Francis Ngannou in a 10-round battle that would be considered an official fight, despite Fury’s title not being on the line.

Fury, who holds the WBC title, has a career record of 34-0-1 with 24 knockouts. Ngannou, who made his boxing debut against Fury, is a former UFC fighter with a career record of 17-3. Ngannou had his UFC Heavyweight title stripped earlier this year and has now found his way to the boxing world.

The fight between the two was announced in the Summer and took place in Saudi Arabia.

From what I have read, Ngannou was robbed of winning the match as he lost the split decision (96-93, 95-94, and 94-95) in favor of Fury. Ngannou was awarded the only knockdown of the contest after connecting on a left hook in the dying seconds of round three.

After being danced on Fury would get up and be able to resume. This would mark only the seventh time Fury has been knocked down in his career.

Punching Stats:

Boxer Punches Jabs Power Punches
Fury 71/223 39/137 32/86
Ngannou 59/231 22/115 37/116

Looking at the stats, Fury has the edge despite Ngannou landing five more power punches.

Round 7 10-9 Fury
Round 8 10-9 Fury
Round 9 10-9 Fury
Round 10 10-9 Fury
Winner: Fury 97-93

I think people think Ngannou was robbed because he went the distance with the champ, knocked him down, and kept it close in the beginning, but Fury was in control after the fourth round so there shouldn’t be much controversy.

It seems like Fury underestimated Ngannou. He had over three months to prepare, but I think if it was a title fight he would have completely dominated.

Not trying to take anything away from Ngannou because it is very impressive to see him come into the boxing world and go toe-to-toe with the champion.

Hopefully, we get a rematch when Ngannou has more boxing matches under his belt.
