NFL Approves In-Game Use of Guardian Caps

The NFL continues to improve player safety. According to The Athletic, the league will allow players to wear guardian caps during games if they want to. Guardian caps are made of closed-cell foam with a spandex fabric cover that helps reduce injury risk. Teams began using these caps in preseason games starting in 2022 and the league has seen a 52% reduction rate in concussions.

My Opinion

I think this is a great move by the league. Yes, the caps look a little silly, but who cares? So many head injuries have cost players seasons, money, and careers and it is time to change. I wonder how many players will actually wear them though. It seems like it may be something that is a domino effect, once a few players do then many more will.

Other Rule Changes

This is one of many rule changes the NFL has implemented this offseason. The major ones include the new kickoff rule to reduce full-speed contact and the hip drop tackle.
