Jets QB Situation

With the Jets coming off a big win against the Eagles it makes me wonder if Zach Wilson is the guy who can get them to the playoffs.

As a Jets fan, I am more than happy being 3-3 after having a tough schedule to start the season and having A-Rod go down, but I don’t know if Wilson can keep the Jets on this track for the remainder of the season.

After their bye in week seven, the Jets face the Chargers, Bills, and Dolphins in a five-week span which could all be losses and if so, could push them out of playoff contention.

The Jets have the defense and the offensive weapons they just need to fill that one missing piece at the quarterback spot to help them compete in these big games.

Everyone thought the missing piece was filled by A-Rod but I’m now through all the stages of grief as I have come to accept that he won’t magically be playing every Sunday for us.

However, with the trade deadline approaching the Jets should look to cook up something special.

There are several possible trade candidates that I would be happy to see starting in green and white.

Kirk Cousins

He leads the league in passing touchdowns with 14  and is second in passing yards behind Tua. The Vikings are 2-4 with little hope of winning the division let alone making the playoffs.

Plus, Jefferson is on the IR so if the team had any hopes of making a run, the door is now shut. Cousins is also in the last year of his contract so if you are Minnesota why not get something for him?

Imagine how well he would do for the Jets when he has a solid running game behind him to help open the play-action, no offense to Alexander Mattison but Breece Hall is on another level (Mattison I have you in fantasy, can you do something please).

At this rate the Vikings will have a top 10 pick in a LOADED quarterback draft so take your pick between Penix, Maye, Nix, Leonard, and so on, and start your minor rebuild.

  • My trade offer: 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

Baker Mayfield

Mayfield may not have flashy numbers, but he throws the ball at a good percentage (65%) and only has three turnovers through five games.

If I had to describe Baker in three words it would be “locker room guy.” The guy is just a competitor and wants to win and that’s what the Jets need.

One issue is Tampa Bay is at the top of their division and is in a close race so giving up their quarterback would not make much sense, but you never know.

  • My trade offer: 2026 fourth-round pick

Jacoby Brissett

Brissett who has been a backup for most of his career, but I think he is better than some starters. Looking at last season he was solid filling in before Watson was allowed to play with 12 touchdowns, almost 240 yards per game, and six interceptions.

He did not have to do too much because he had Nick Chubb who could carry a big workload which is exactly what the Jets need, someone who relies on his running back, gets some drives going, and does not turn the ball over.

The Commanders seem to be rolling with Howell who has the potential to be their future quarterback so why not let Brissett shine in East Rutherford? Brissett is also a free agent at the end of the season, however, I can see the Commanders resigning him because he is a valuable backup.

  • My trade offer: Trevor Siemian and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
