Mike McCarthy Returning for Another Season

Jerry Jones has decided to keep Head Coach Mike McCarthy, despite the early playoff exit.

After losing 48-32 to the 7-seed Green Bay Packers and McCarthy’s former team, many speculations on whether or not McCarthy would be the head coach next year began to circulate. However, the Cowboy’s disappointing loss after a 12-5 season was not enough to get McCarthy canned.

McCarthy has a career head coaching record of 167-102-2 with a playoff record of 11-11 along with a Super Bowl with the Packers in 2010. He has been the head coach for the Cowboys since 2020 and has posted a 42-25 regular season record with the team, the fourth-best record by any team in the last four years. Although the Cowboys have been a top team in recent years, their playoff performances have not reflected their regular season success. McCarthy only has one playoff win in four playoff games during his tenure with the Cowboys, which is the reason why many fans expected him to be fired.

If the Cowboys did fire McCarthy they could have gone for some top-tier coaches like Belichick, Vrabel, and Jim Harbaugh.

If the Cowboys disappoint again next season don’t expect Jerry Jones to offer McCarthy another contract.
