NFL Conference Championship Games
Chiefs @ Ravens
The number 3 Seed Kansas City Chiefs walked into Baltimore and shut down one of the most explosive offenses in the league. The front seven had the MVP favorite scrambling all game and the Mahomes and Kelce connection looked unstoppable. The Ravens also beat themselves in many ways. They had three awful turnovers, one from Flowers that should have been a touchdown and a ball that was thrown into triple coverage that was picked off. They also took a lot of bad penalties- taunting, unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, and roughing the passer.
Biggest Stats From The Game
Mahomes: 77% completion 256 total yards 1 passing touchdown
Kelce: 11 catches 121 total yards 1 touchdown
Flowers: 5 catches 119 total yards 1 touchdown
Lions @ 49ers
Now to the West Coast for the main event. One of if not the best games of the playoffs came down to the wire in Levi Stadium. The Lion’s offense looked unstoppable to start the game after scoring on a four-play opening drive capped off by a Jameson Williams 42-yard end around. The Niners seemed to have no answers in the first half and found themselves in a 17-point deficit. However, San Fran came out in the second half like a whole new team scoring on five unanswered possessions to take a 34-24 lead. The Lions cut the lead to three with another Williams touchdown, but it was too late and their comeback attempt fell short. The story of the game will be head coach Dan Campbell’s 4th down decision-making. Before the half, he kicked a field goal on 4th down at the 3-yard line, went for it on 4th down in field goal range in the third quarter and did not convert, and went for it again on 4th down in field goal range in the fourth quarter down by three points and did not convert. Campbell and the Lions have been aggressive all season and that is the reason they have gotten so far this year, but it may have hurt them last night.
